 The Third Session of the World Nobel Congress in Economics was held at Alfred Nobel University (Dnipropetrovs’k, Ukraine) on 16-19 May, 2012. “The Role of Economic Science in Forming National Strategies” - the main topic of scientific debate in the Congress.

As stated in the Resolution of Congress, "an urgent task today, which must be decided by the international scientific community, is to develop an effective strategy for the world and, in particular, national economies, which should be based on the achievements of Nobel Laureates in economics and the leading scientists of the world, adapting their ideas to current processes".


The plenary and sectional sessions were devoted to the discussion of this pressing topic, the main speakers being Alexander Ermolaev - Director, National Institute of Strategic Studies under the President of Ukraine, Grzegorz Kolodko - former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Professor of Economics, Director of the Research Institute for "TIGER" (Kozminski University, Warsaw), Max Alier - official representative of the IMF in Ukraine and other leaders of national economic institutions and some of the world's most eminent economists , from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Romania, Poland, Montenegro ...


The 2012 Congress received congratulations from the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Boris Paton and the Governor of Dnipropetrovs’k region Vilkul Alexander, the Mayor of Dnipropetrovs’k Ivan Kulichenko. The Congress was attended by the General Consul of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine Jan Granat.
As a result of meetings with members of Congress representing institutions of higher education and research of Ukraine and other countries the University has signed a cooperation agreement with the North-Caucasian Institute of Business, Engineering and Information Technology (Armavir, Russia), a plan of intent with the University named after Helena Hodkovskoy (Warsaw , Poland), agreed the content and initialed an agreement with the Belarusian Trade and Economic University (Gomel, Belarus) and the National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Ukraine (Kiev).
All in all , 24 reports were delivered at the plenary sessions and 130 participants made presentations at the workshops.
In accordance with tradition, the Congress began with a formal presentation of awards to the winners of the Second World Nobel Students’ Internet Contest in Economics, who were represented this year by students from universities in Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus. The winners received special prizes, diplomas and cash prizes (the Dnipropetrovs’k regional department of the bank, "Finance and Credit" acted as the prize fund partner of the Congress ).

Special awards were presented to the first three college basketball teams - winners of the tournament in basketball for the Cup Charity Fund "Alfred Nobel Planet".

Within the framework of the Congress there were four working sections , devoted to the anniversaries of the birth of a Nobel Laureates in Economics or other prominent economists , in particular:
Workshop 1. «Monetary Aspects of Modern Economic Development» (devoted to 100th Anniversary of the Birth of M.Friedman , Nobel Laureate in Economics)
Workshop 2. «Economic Mathematization or Mathematic Economization: Synergy Effect» (devoted to 100th Anniversary of the Birth of L.V. Kantorovich, Nobel Laureate in Economics)
Workshop 3. «Modern Cycle Theories: Succession and Modernism» (dedicated to 100th Anniversary of the Birth of N. Kondratieff)
Workshop 4. «New Generation of Nobel Ideas» (based on the results of the Second World Nobel Students’ Internet Contest in Economics)
The fourth , students’, section , was attended by the student-winners of the online contest, and also by high school pupils from Dnipropetrovs’k’s schools and high schools ( Lyceum number 100 and the NEC Municipal Law Lyceum) , which are partners of the University, winners of various Nobel Prize competitions, tournaments, essay contests.

The key questions which were discussed at plenary meetings and workshops were: the impact of innovations on economic development, opportunities for accelerated development of countries, national development strategy formation, monetary aspects of contemporary economic development, modern theories of cycles, mutual influence of mathematics and economics, Nobel studies and the promotion of Nobel movement in the world, etc.
According to the outcomes of discussions, the following recommendations were adopted by the participants of The Third Session of the World Nobel Congress in Economics:
to generalize the proposals of the Congress participants regarding the formation of national development strategies, to draw up corresponding documents and direct them to state authorities of the countries – participants of the event;
to recommend statesmen and politicians, the scientific community and representatives of business structures to initiate advancement of national and international development strategies as well as cooperation with the purpose of avoiding the ruinous consequences of global crises ;
to continue scientific research into economic development cyclicity concentrating on the design of modern instruments and technologies directed at preventing and avoiding crises as well as methods of countries’ economic management during the periods of cyclic fluctuations and the techniques of adequate and objective evaluation of the implications of crises and their forecasting in the future;
to develop international and regional integration in order to increase the competitiveness of countries, to extend the practice of creating international strategic innovative and technological alliances for conducting research programs in the field of economic development and organization of international innovative and technological exchange for the attraction of foreign and national investments to finance innovative projects;
to emphasize the importance of higher educational institutions in the process of next-generation personnel formation, to encourage the participation of students and young researchers in international scientific programs and events;
to continue the publication of lectures of Nobel Prize Winners, as well as systematic holding of Nobel Readings and Contests devoted to the works of Nobel Laureates;
to extend the scope of World Nobel Students’ Internet Contest, including sciences other than economics into the Contest program;
to support the idea of holding the the Fourth World Nobel Congress in Economics in May 2014 and to attract Nobel Prize Laureates and leading world scientists to this event;
to propose the problem «Economic Theory and Economic Practice: Contradictory Interaction» as the main subject for the discussion at The Fourth World Nobel Congress in Economics.
The scientific work of the Congress has been published in two volumes, the publication of Alfred Nobel University , Dnipropetrovs’k - "Bulletin of the International Nobel Economic Forum."

During the Congress an exhibition of the scientific and methodological literature of Alfred Nobel University was held.

The cultural program of the Congress took the participants to a variety of museums , to the "North Gate" of Dnipropetrovs’k, as well as to monuments of different towns in the region, such as Novomoskovs’k and Petrikovka .One special events of the Congress was the opening of the poster exhibition , "WOMEN IN POLISH SCIENCE (a joint project conducted in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine) with the participation of Mr. Jan Granat, General Consul of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine.

The broadcast of plenary sessions and other activities of the Congress was conducted on-line via the website of the University.
